The Pavlath lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms
that regulate the function of satellite cells, which are stem cells found in adult
skeletal muscle. Satellite cells are critical for muscle growth and repair.
Maintaining adequate muscle mass is critical for optimal human health and performance.
We employ a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques to identify the molecules
and signal transduction pathways that control satellite cell fate, proliferation,
migration, differentiation, and fusion.
