Research Area:
Vesicular trafficking in neurotransmission, signal transduction, neurodegenerative diseases
Research Interests:
The goal of our research is to understand, at the molecular level, how vesicular trafficking is regulated under physiological conditions, and how this process becomes dysregulated in brain diseases. We are doing experiments to identify and characterize novel proteins and biochemical pathways that control synaptic vesicle trafficking and neurotransmitter release. We are also investigating the molecular mechanisms that govern endosome-to-lysosome trafficking and its coupling to the regulation of intracellular signal transduction. Through our studies, we will define new molecular targets for understanding and treating neurodegenerative diseases and psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
